  1. I FRIGGIN DID IT. IT WORKS! Okay, so in future reference for anyone else who finds this thread, this is how it was solved. First: The Problem - Had a modded OG XBOX, With an old School XBIT 1.0 mod chip, and the hard drive died. After figuring out it was indeed the hard drive, not the IDE cable, chip, or the DVD drive, I replaced the drive. If you are going to use a SATA drive, MAKE SURE the IDE to SATA converter you have WORKS with XBOX. ALSO the IDE cable needs to be replaced with an 80 WIRE IDE cable. It will not work without that cable with a SATA drive. My solution was to get an IDE drive, because then I was 100% sure it wasnt something else causing the issues and i didnt need a new cable. The Solution: NEW IDE DRIVE, formatted it with FATXplorer BETA. Make sure your computer can plug into the drive you want to format, given that mine was IDE I had to build a whole new PC with old parts i had left over from past old PCs. Then follow the tutorial on how to do that below https://www.hazeno.com/guides/fatxplorer-2tb-preload Then I put that drive in my Xbox, re-seated the chip, booted it up, and BAM it worked. Thank you so much for all the help! Im sorry to have been a pain for the past few months, but you've all been so great. I hope this helps someone else in the future and has all the info in 1 place to solve the issues I had scoured the internet for.
  2. i figured it out with a little help from the guy who runs the site. It was confused with the IDE cable I was using. It loaded up everything, and now I have an error 05, which means my drive is unlocked, and the mod chip isnt turning on? .... feels like every step forward there is a step back
  3. I have no idea, I didnt attempt to re-flash the chip in any way, I was too afraid my PC would mess it up, I know it has a working bios on it, it was working before the HDD died, so Im just hoping to format this new drive properly and have it work. I really wish I could send this to one of you guys, you CLEARLY know the chip and the XBox inside and out, and Im at the point I just want it to work, and the local modder here in town wants to charge me 70 dollars for a soft mod .... like no thanks, I want someone who knows this like you guys do. Thanks for all the help thus far, Im going to attempt to format the drive tonight with the files provided above and hope it works.
  4. I am finally ready to try this, it's been a whole thing setting up a PC that has ICE cables, that can run a .net framework new enough to run this program. It looks like a fantastic option, but do you have any idea the partition sizes on a 400g drive, with a modchip that may have a 120g limit? .... like how big should each partition be to trick it? I saw the old XBit im using has a limit, so im worried it wont allow me to use the 400gb drive i want to use, but i want more space. Or am I worrying over a problem I dont actually have?
  5. I do believe it's a 1.0. I dont know how big it supports but I have a 400g and a 250g HDD im going to try, i dont want to push it with such an old chip.
  6. I have built an old PC and it is running windows XP, so I should be able to flash my XBIT chip with it, does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on how, and what bios I should be flashing it with? Also, is it nessicary that i flash the mod chip to update it, or can i just upgrade the HDD with FatXplorer and have it work? I really want to fix this myself, or at the very least mail it to someone from this board that has experience with the XBIT mod chip to fix it for me. I give it to a local guy to look at, and he wanted to basically soft mod it, so i took it back and am trying again myself. I want this to work, with my existing mod chip.
  7. Okay, so it took a while, but I got my hands on a good, tested, working IDE drive, when I plug it in I get an Error 16, which is to be expected. So from the tutorials, all i need to do is boot up the system with a Hexen disc in it, and from there the rest is easy. No dice. My drive will not see the discs, and I've burned a ton of them. Slayers, Hexen, Im up to 11 different discs, burned at different speeds, and Im fairly sure I did it right because if i put them in my computer my PC cant read them. I think the issue might be the BIOS on my mod chip being old, but I have no means to flash it because it's an XBIT 1.0, it's old, the software to flash them is old, and I dont have an old PC to flash it with, to get it to boot from the DVD first. It keeps looking to the HDD and instantly giving me an error 16. Any ideas on what I should try next?
  8. Ya I had purchased before the link was posted. This is the one I bought https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002SZDOM6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. This is super helpful, Im not sure if the cable I got is working properly, since I have an error 12 now. Im thinking I should just ditch the new cable and sata adapter and get a new IDE hard drive, so i can use the parts that I know work.
  10. Okay! So the cable came in, I installed it, and now I get an Error 12. I've tried many discs, Hexen, TruHexen, Slayers 2.7, Slayers 3.0, Slayers 2020, Autoinstaller .... all are error 12. This machine just keeps putting up walls, seriously, the internet makes this look easy for everyone else. I get nothing but new errors. Any idea what to do from here?
  11. Sorry for the delayed reply, apparently Im only allowed so many responses in a 24 hour period. I am burning the discs correctly, when inserted into my computer they will not read. I have a lot of experience burning games for consoles, so this part I know I did right, the only questionable thing is I am using Memorex blank DVD's and not the suggested Verbatim ones. I think I have figured out my issue though, I have a SATA drive, with a IDE to SATA adapter, and from what I was able to figure out through a lot of reading on this forum, is that I need a 40pin 80 wire IDE cable for it to read the drive properly. I have ordered one, but am searching for an IDE hard drive to test if my theory is correct before it gets here. I will post again when I have tried it, but i am feeling very sure it is the root of my problem.
  12. Yes, i've tried with the disc in, and also putting it in after it's booted .... It just wont work. If I could get this thing to see the discs, the rest of the solve is easy from what i've seen online. But I cant get past error 16.
  13. Ask all the silly questions, because I feel like this should be easy to fix and it keeps kicking my ass. I swear the solution is gonna be like "Did you plug it in?" and my dumb ass will be like "FIXED IT!" lol .... but yes, i've tried Hexen, TruHexen, Slayers (multiple versions), and my xbox wont read any of them. It doesnt seem to matter what speed I burn them at or what version, my Xbox will not read the DVD's. I get the flubber, says XBOX ..... then no "Microsoft" or "Xecuter 2" like it used to, just stalls for a minute or 2, then ERROR 16.
  14. No, my old hard drive seems to have died on me.
