  1. it seems that that may be right, I just need the startech and the new cables since the one I have is just too short and it's not going to work anyway with any adapter I have since they all have all pins. yeah, i miscalculated, I thought they were 21 in the row so to have 10 pins on both sides but they're actually 9 on the left and 10 on the right. pretty strange. yeah ok, nothing surprising, I've always been a disaster in algebra, but I don't think I'll buy anything, I mean, if I get the money from the console I'm selling I might as well buy a new PC to emulate it all with Xemu, which is probably the best thing for me. well thanks for clarifying things out. now at least I know what to do. btw: fyi, consider that here in Italy the adapter doesn't cost just 20$ it costs 40€ (around 50$) same goes for cables and other stuff, just to help you figuring out why I'm so reluctant.
  2. we have different drives, that's the point. there's no "i'm right, you're wrong / i say the truth, you lie " look at it carefully and mind that I tried once to connect the other cable and messd with a couple of those pins. and sorry for the blurry images, I was just too pissed to keep the focus, if that makes you happy.
  3. By official I meant "the things you guys say" ... geez... let's just get over it. You don't need to waste time taking pics and I'm not arguing with anyone.
  4. just checked. all pins are there. some are even retracted god knows why, possibly my past attempts to make it work with my old windows pc cable at the time I had the green bogus adapter. really, let's just quit it at the moment, I'll be back when I have enough money to waste and follow the official guides and reccomendations.
  5. Dude, just give up, I don't need to show the pics and we don't need to go like yes/no/yes/no forever.
  6. As said before, there would be still the problem of the DVD drive that has all the pins on both rows. Withouth the DVD drive I can't install Evox which runs on CD so it's all pointless. I know and I trust that, I just have logic doubts to solve.
  7. ok the adapter can connect to that because it seems it missed the pin in the middle, but what about the dvd drive ? it has all the pins
  8. yes they do. all pins on both rows, both the dvd and hard drives I got have them. no missing pin in the middle. also the adapter is the same so how am I supposed to use the cable that misses a hole in the middle?
  9. simply all drives and adapters have all pins on both rows, how am I supposed to use the cable with the missing hole in the middle? as regards jumpers on sata drives, what about this ?
  10. what about the blank pin in the middle of that cable?
  11. I'm using the default cable of the Xbox, which worked both with the original hdd and others "upgraded" larger hdd even if I get one, there's still that master/slave thing which is impossible to know with the adapter I bought, according to the seller it was used with a usb 2.0 network station. really, people need to sell adapters in bundle with cables and make it economically accessible, I think I have wasted enough time, patience and money already. already put the consoles on sale anyway... so it's not like I'm that interested anymore...
  12. yep, reading on various reviews on amazon, it seems like it wasn't made for devices with more than 1 drive. case solved, this adapter sucks and I lost my money.
  13. Then why the other green adapter didn't work as it had master/slave jumper?
  14. can't the designation be done on the hdd itself?
  15. meh I knew I wasted money. just trying the new OGXBOX installer and if it doesn't work, I think I'm going to sell it all, I'm officially done with it.
  16. Hi all, I've recently bought this adapter , I connected it to the power and the data cables (Seagate SATA 250gb drive 3.5"), inserted Slayer Evox 2.7 DVD, but it stucks a bit into the Xbox splash screen (while showing the pink icon on the top-left, no "Slayer Evox 2.7" appears below the Xbox logo) before giving me Error 16. So I switched back to the old PATA drive, Evox launched correctly, switched the drives (while Evox still running) but : - when I format, it takes ages and returns '0' on each partition - when I try to lock/unlock it freezes (blank text on blue container) - when I try install as new large hdd it takes to formatting - when I try to install just Evox on C it takes weirdly no time (after formatting all partitions took ages as usual). Edit: I just tried, left the console for a while, then returned and as before all partitions shown '0' and when I reboot (thinking the install process was complete) same Error 16 as before, sometimes error 7 So what I'm supposed to do? FYI: the adapter has no "slave/master" thing on it, just the 40 pins and the power ones (but it seems making the hard drive working/sounding).
  17. I dunno... I actually tried to convert the console into a "retro-console" some time ago, with emulators and stuff but many often (even if they're up to date) emulators crashed or they didn't work, so I basically use my PC for emulators, while keeping the console for what it is: an original Xbox for Xbox-exclusive titles which were not available for PC (same goes for my other consoles). At this rate, I'd may wait some more years to find a suitable PC, cheap enough to emulate all 6th gen console easily (as for now, unfortunely, emulation on Xemu, PCSX2 and Dolphin are very demanding and I can barely play them on native resolution, surprisingly only FlyCast is doing well... but the reason is known to anyone: emulators try to guess the mechanics, they don't actually know them exactly). There's plenty to play in the meanwhile and I'm happy with the current Xbox titles I'm able to play (only a few against the whole thing, I know, but it's fine for me). It's just a matter of "principle" to me, I mean, the only price I could define adhering to common sense for a simple adapter would be... 5€, no more. I hope sellers will understand this, instead of taking advantage of the "niche" factor of retrogaming. But hey, they're selling HDMI resamplers for PS2 at 500$. I hope they feel honest about themselves, lol.
  18. Yeah, I know I can just pick the startech and go, but it's just weird, kinda against common sense, I mean there are people selling the whole console for 50€, I have to spend 30€ (average prize on ebay) for just a "piece" of it all, for a console I don't use that often? It just looks absurd to me, so I'll just hang around the market to see if the price gets finally humane, lol (afterall, things get old, rarity can be the reason for high price, but they should know nobody's gonna buy those things, as I see them still there for years).
  19. afterall, it's an Hamlet... to buy or not to buy ?
  20. Just another adapter I've found, still a bit cheaper than startech and I wonder if it will work.
  21. Most probably a 250gb 3.5" Seagate ... but it's theoretically ok, I mean, even it the console will be slightly open, I just need to avoid switching from disks and just have one with all games selectable and even some more space for newer ones (since I'm not done playing 6th gen console exclusives, I guess). unless startech prices drop by the grace of God, lol
  22. It would be a "better problem" than it is now (using two PATA hd that I switch externally).
  23. The seller was kind enough to post more pics and specs but the other side of the adapter can't be seen as it can't be extracted from the package.
  24. I honestly don't know what that means. Is it just a matter of speed/performance of the drive (example: I'd get better performance with a startech) or does it mean the SATA drive I want to use won't be recognized (example, during Slayer Evox CD installation...) Just to clarify my needs, it's always been this way: if I plug a PATA drive, the Xbox correctly launches the Slayer Evox installation disc... if I use another cheap adapter I got on Amazon (the green one) with a SATA drive it displays the error page (can't remember which number, something like 13 or 5). All I'd like to know if that adapter (the one on the 1st post) will make the SATA drive recognizable... (I guess only who actually used it can say for sure). Anyway I asked the seller if it's Xbox-compatible and a pic of the rear (since the SATA plug isn't visible), still awaiting response.
  25. I just found this on ebay. Looks cheap and I wonder if it will work.
