  1. I have been trying to find versions 5.12 and 6 for "softmod installer deluxe". Does anyone have a link?
  2. Thanks again SS Dave. I have done one console already, actually it was a friend who did it as I am not confident enough with a soldering iron to attempt a recap on any of my boards just yet. My friend has done caps for PC motherboards in the past so I just watched him work. Before we attempt anymore we just wanted to hear from someone who is experienced with soldering with the xbox. So how long would you recommend holding the tip to the board for? We only did 10 seconds first up.
  3. I am about to do my second recap, my first one went well. I had a friend who has soldered countless caps help me out. I am just curious about what your recommendations are when it comes to soldering?
  4. I did last week when I did my first recap, I must have had three heart attacks before I figured out what was wrong lol.
  5. Thanks once again "SS Dave". I am going to replace those five trouble caps near the cpu and the other two.
  6. Yeah Nichicon had a few bad batches with the HM and HN series back in the day, might explain why those particular caps tend to leak. I have not seen the ones made by Rubycon leak as of yet. Thanks once again SS Dave. I'm just going to boot it up and see what happens. I will replace the caps if I have any issues. Just a quick final question, we have spoken in the past about bad capacitors, in regards to old unused capacitors on the xbox mobo and psu, if they have gone bad from not being used and don't physically explode should I expect any damage to the mobo, psu or any other parts of the console if it is used? Sorry to keep going on about it, I tend to get concerned about things I don't understand. Thanks again anyway, you have been a big help.
  7. Thanks again Kaos, what is the best way to reliably test a cap? Also does the test tell you if the cap needs to be reformed? I have seen a few sealed consoles powered on in the last three years with no problems but I would like to check mine before I do anything.
  8. I have noticed that there are still a few sealed consoles on ebay and they can get quite expensive. With all these consoles being sealed and in storage for over 15 years is it likely that the caps (apart from the usual problem caps) will need to be reformed or replaced before powered?
  9. Thanks for your help guys, I just bought a few anti static straps.
  10. You are definitely not wrong there, really just the original xbox as whole I tend to worry about. So many great memories.
  11. Thanks very much for your help. So the metal cage around the system will discharge any static even when the system is not plugged in? I was moving some hard discs around today, and was touching the connectors when I was trying to get the cables out, are they static protected as well?
  12. Thank you again, I really appreciate your help. Sorry to keep going but how about these caps, the ones circled in the following pictures, are they also grounded? The one in the first, three in the second and the three on the psu in the last photo? Also is the clock cap grounded? Lastly, as you may know I made the mistake of touching the caps, now if they are connected to ground and I touch them, is it correct that because they are connected to ground and ground connects everything, it will raise the potential of everything. So therefore ESD damage should not happen as everything is now at the same potential? Even if the system itself was unplugged? I think I explained that right lol.
  13. Many thanks for your help again. The caps I am looking at are the electrolytic caps, they are all grounded aren't they?
  14. Does anyone know how many caps on the 1.6 board are grounded? Also is the motherboard safe from ESD if it is bolt to the case?
  15. Thanks once again Kaos!
  16. How exactly would I restore the cut L frame on a 1.6/b xbox. My friend tried to install a wire over the cut but it seems to have shorted out and left a black mark on the motherboard. It is cut the same as in this photo.
  17. Thanks alot for your help. Just concerned about a hard drive having a different hostname from the eeprom. It seems everything in that link I shared is dictated by the Internet service providers or the router or they are things I can change myself. Only hostname is the one thing I have no control over. So its the same as the ip address and shouldn't be an issue? Sorry if I keep going on lol I just want to get everything right.
  18. So the the mac address and hostname are the same?
  19. Its the hostname im concerned about, I could clone a drive so all the drives have the same hostname but if I mix and match the hard drives the host name might be different from the the hostname that is stored in the eeprom (if it is stored in the eeprom, I am not sure if it is or not, can't find any info) and if that would cause a conflict.
  20. Thats quite an interesting machine, I don't think I have seen one before. I could clone but its the data on the hdd conflicting with the different eeproms I am concerned about. Different versions but same hard disk key. I would like to keep them locked for personal reasons I guess.
  21. I am in the process of modding my multiple xbox consoles so that they all have the same files and also hdd keys so that I can mix and match the hard drives across all systems. Hdd keys seem simple enough but I have a few questions about the config sector of the hdd. The config sector is I think the first sector of the hdd and stores certain configuration settings. These settings are unable to be changed as far as I am aware. https://xboxdevwiki.net/Config_Sector. I will be using configmagic to match the different settings accros the many eeproms and ftping over my gamesaves. I have a concern that if I swap over a hdd that these settings in the config sector may come into conflict with the new xbox it is placed in. Most of those settings are not a worry. Host name is something I am not so sure about, I can't find any info relating to the original xbox hostname or how to change it. I would hate to switch a hard drive and because host name on said hdd doesn't match with rest of the system something bad happens. I would like some help with this issue of mine, regarding hostname and if there is anything else in the config sector I should be concerned about with what I am trying to do. (Mix and match hard drives accross multiple consoles, I won't be cloning or full eeprom flashing).
  22. Thanks everyone for the replies, the consoles are all hardmodded. I think I am going to go with nulling the hard drive keys.
  23. I would also like to keep some of consoles as stock as possible, is there anyway to do this without keeping the hard drive unlocked?
