  1. Yep the potentiometer is the same as in the 360 gamepd. I tried desoldering just the side bit (i.e. the X pot) and soldering another one in place (I had spare parts lying around) but I ended f*cking up the board because I suck at soldering Thanks for your answers anyway.
  2. Hi there, I bought an old duke gamepad which unfortunately has a problem with its left thumbstick. The thumbstick feels OK and can move in any direction but it always sends the same x-axis signal : full right i.e. maximum positive value (tested with TestLaunch). What could be the cause? Bad cable? Bad solder? Bad joystick mechanism? Something else? Please advise! TIA Serge
  3. I just did that, but it didn'nt work. [UPDATE] I have no idea why, but I installed XBMC4Gamers and it suddenly started working. Thanks anyway!
  4. I am using a good old Duke. I don't know how to get back to the stock dashboard. There doesn't seem to be anything directly in c:\ BTW, I softmodded the xbox using latest JRocky5
  5. Hi, Funny title, less funny behavior : my 1.6 xbox won't run chimp. I have another soft-modded 1.6 on which chimp works quite well, so I copied the chimp app folder over to the new one, but no luck. I tried downgrading from component video to composite, but no luck. I tried renaming the Chimp folder to chimp, but no luck. I get to th first screen, linux boots, "starting chimp" is displayed in green and then nothing. What should I do? TIA Serge
  6. I resoldered the 6 points but that didn't help. I guess the Duo is to blame then. I'll keep the xbox softmodded for the time being. I might get back to it later, and properly refix the LPC using the V4 shipped with the openxenium. Thanks anyway.
  7. HI all, I am new to mochips but I recently decided to take the plunge. I found an OpneXenium which I bought reasonably cheap on eBay (including LPC rebuild). Since I am not so good at soldering, I also bought a spare 1.6 to try my skills. To my surprise I found that it had been modded. A disconnected Duo X2 was hanging loose inside it (a white model with AMD chip). As is, the xbox boots without problem into MS dash. When the duo is connected and I start the xbox via the eject button, everrything works as intended (MS mode) When the duo is connected and I start the xbox via the on/off button, a red light flashes and the xbox enters a quick on/off cycle (drives starting then stopping). My guess is that the Duo is defective. It probably was installed to read exports (since the HDD is a 10GB model), then fried and disconnected in order to sell the xbox. But that could be good news If I can make use of the already fixed LPC. Can it be done, as the nubers of pins differ (+2 for the openxenium)? And what would I be supposed to do with the white wire (D0) that is connected to the duo? Please help! Serge
  8. Yes! I had forgotten that folder. Thanks a lot!
  9. Hi there, My 1.6 og xbox won't softmod. I tried Splinter Cell (Error 21) and 007 (reboot). It runs fine otherwise. I was browsing the internal memory via MS Dashboard today when I came across a strange itrem, called NkPatcher. I suppose the xbox has been softmodded then brought back to MS standard. Any idea on how I could re-softmod it? Or why any previous (maybe failed) attempt would prevent me to re-softmod it? TIA Serge
  10. Now I feel even more lost. To sum it up : I have a stock unmodded 1.6b Xbox and I want to softmod it and swap its HD for a bigger one I do not have access to another working xbox than the aforementioned I haven't been able (yet) to find a USB stick that I can use to perform the Splinter Cell softmod. I managed to format one on the xbox but copying to it works in the most bizarre ways (see my first post) So what are my other options? Can I extract the eeprom.bin via Xboxhdm2.3? TIA Serge
  11. > You don’t need Xplorer360 for this just a copy of Xboxhdm2.3 and Rocky5 variations softmod for xboxhdm2.3 Do you know a good howto guide for this?
  12. > So you are trying to make a 1tb hard drive for a Xbox Yes > Do you have the HDD key from the Xbox you are making it for? No. How do I get it? > And is this for the damages Xbox that locks up on booting? No, this is the other one, a v1.6b that actually works.
  13. Ouch, this is a complex tool. I tried to "build a new xbox hd" since this is my second goal (1st softmod 2nd swap for a 1GB SATA HD). But I feel like I don't really know what I'm doing. And I don't know what a "hotswap" is I understand I have to dump my xbox's eeprom somehow. Don't know how though.
  14. Yes it is. I'll give xboxhdm a try. Thanx BR Serge
  15. > What method are you using to connect the hdd to your PC. An USB to IDE adapter. I'm using a laptop here. > Also once the drive is connected, try rescanning the disks. The drive is already visible in disk management.
  16. > Have you added the msvcr71.dll file to Xplorer360 folder and run it as administrator? Yes and yes
  17. Just tried that. Xplorer360 (beta6) does not see the drive. Sometimes unplugging the ide cable from the HDD will cause it to stop/restart spinning. I tried disconnecting it in the mosty gentle way and setting it as master (was cable select). When in cable select mode, the xbox immediately shows the "needs to be serviced" screen with a number in the top left corner. When in master mode, this screen appears only when disconnecting the drive. After that, same result : Xplorer360 does not see the drive (windows 10 sees it as raw) What did I do wrong? BR Serge
  18. I'll try that. Thanx. BR Serge
  19. For the first couple of tries I coud get to the clock-setting part and hear the sound of increasing the hours (but the screen itself was frozen). Soldering a modchip scares me, I even find changing caps a big challenge! I do not really trust my soldering abilities...
  20. You're lucky to still have such low-end USB sticks. My smallest is 1GB. This is also my first attempt at modding, so no already modded xbox here
  21. Global view. I've just given it another go and this time I got a screen telling me "your xbox needs servicing" or something like that.
  22. Problem is, the dashboard doesn't see 5553000C nor 21585554. Modus operandi: Put usb stick in xbox. Format it. Put usb stick in PC, copy 5553000C and 21585554 Connect/siconnect usb stick from PC. 5553000C and 21585554 still visible Put usb stick in xbox. No save visible. Copy old save from xbox to stick (JB 007 IIRC) Connect/siconnect usb stick from xbox. Old save still visible. Put usb stick in PC. Old save not visible. 5553000C and 21585554 still visible. Disconnect mind from problem - brain is stuck in infinite loop BR Serge
  23. I don't even get to see the dashboard, I sometimes get a frozen picture of it. the feezing generally happens on the boot animation. No mod chip, component output. Pic to come. BR Serge
