Cheers, it's funny how deep down the rabbit hole I fell after just wanting to play an old game again. I've picked up 2 cheap Xboxes and I'm just waiting for my torx set to arrive before diving in, first port of call is finding out what versions they are and removing the clock caps if needed. I've also ordered an Aladdin XT so I can try both soft and hard modding one of each.

To determine your Xbox versions see http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=367210&seqNum=2

Start with the production date and/or date code on the serial number sticker:

LNNNNNN YWWFF

L = Factory Production Line Number

NNNNNN = number of Xbox made this week on this line in this factory

Y = last digit of the year of production (200Y)

WW = Week of production year

FF = production factory (02 = Mexico, 03=Hungary, 05 = China, 06=Taiwan)
