musicman5818
This may sound weird and maybe it is but can I softmod or better should I softmod with the xecuter hardmod installed? I heard modern softmods are better.
KaosEngineer
Leave the modchip. No need to softmod. Easier to install a new HDD as it doesn't have to be locked with a modchip installed. Others will most likely say something different. What X2 BIOS are you using? There may be something newer to use. Update: You shouldn't (can't) have both installed at the same time. If so, you generally get a black screen when you expect the replacement dashboard to show up. Magicaldave
I guess it depends mostly on what chip you have. Personally, unless it’s a 1.6, I would pull the chip and replace with a solid TSOP, then zero the HDD key. It is easier to install a replacement drive with a chip, but if you have a spare chip running around, it also makes it that much easier to recover from a drive failure or some terrible BIOS issue, or other mods in the future. Tl;dr, if this is your only system and don’t plan future mods, leave it alone.
