Clear/Painted Jewel

This is a brief guide on how to change your jewel color.

There are a few different ways to do this. There is NO quick and easy way to do ot that doesn't risk damaging your jewel.

What you need

Brasso or similar metal polish.

A rag or polishing cloth

some type of candle

if you want to paint it then paint, color of your choice.

and a whole lot of time/ Elbow Grease.

First You'll have to take your jewel off your console, Not gonna explain this because there are several different methods that you can find elsewhere.

Once you have your jewel off you'll need to clean the Black goop off. I forgot to get pictures of this part, But all i do is rub it with a clean dry cloth with my thumb till its all gone.

Then you'll need to rub some candle wax into the letters of the jewel so you don't remove the chrome paint..

After that's done you'll need to get to work with the brasso. Its very time consuming (Took me about 2 or 3 hours working on and off)

Just keep rubbing (Think of dory) lol

Keep going!!

I didn't get a picture of it once it was all clear, But you get the idea, Right?

After you get all the green off you want to run the jewel under some Hot water to remove the wax, (I used some dish soap and a SOFT brush to help work it out faster.)

After its dry you can keep it clear or add some paint of your chosen color.

once its dried you can glue it back onto your console and Enjoy all your hard work..

Great tutorial! Goof Off works extremely well but you can't let it sit too long or it'll leave little "stress" cracks on the front of the jewel. I put a few drops into a pickle jar lid and then drop the jewel in face down for 3 seconds. Then get to scrubbing! Tires your hand and fingers out a bit, but it's well worth the finished product! That red looks amazing with that cut out.

Thanks man! Once my leds show up, the window and controller ports will be lit up Red.

Ive tried goof off and it got the paint off fast but turned the jewel foggy.  I didn't want to risk this one.

Haha yeah I let one of mine sit a little too long and it fogged up. Decided to sand the top a little and give it a "frosted" look and it actually turned out pretty decent. Hard to see the Xbox lettering from the angle but it's still there.

Label remover is my go to choice to get the Jewels off spray it on till it pools in the jewels recess leave for a bit, it  makes the sticky useless and you can then ping out the Jewel with zero fuss. Another dosing usually makes very short work of any black sticky that resisted on the Jewel or recess.

You can buy label remover from the likes of Maplin, RS, CPC/Farnells and Radio Shak etc for a few pounds,

Just tried a different approach to this just to see what would happen.

used one of those foam backed sanding blocks that you can get for a couple of quid in pound land etc. I bought one with a fine side and a medium side. Took less than 5 mins to remove the paint.

The plastic on every Jewel I've ever polished has not been completely flat, so there's always a bit that takes longer to go as its in a dip, sanding levels it out so should be a good thing.

Sanding like this should be fine if you need to paint it, as the paint will fill in the micro scratches.

A quick polish with toothpaste or  plastic polish brigs them up like glass, if that's what you want.

I've done it so many ways over the years, I do 1 or 2 every month now. I use a plastic pry to get the double sided black tape off, then I use my electric sander with 400 grit to remove the paint. takes minutes and makes it clean and flat. If the top is damaged i use 400 grit moving in one direction, usually in line with the "XBOX". then I use a green dish scrubby to smooth it some. then I use wide painters tape and tape around the jewel, that way I can paint the bottom. then I use crystal clear coat on top. makes them look great. for a clear jewel I use crystal clear coat on both sides, makes the jewel light up great with LED'S. most times I make them clear, so I do the top first. then when I clear coat the bottom I use the tape that's around it to position it on the xbox. nice and very clean compared to glue, and makes it easier/
