About Me

  1. Got two units that need just those two chips. Anyone have two chips 1.0's that they can sell?
  2. Selling PicoPromSDs. My new EEPROM tool. Testing is going great and haven’t heard anything negative. Because of this, I’m opening up sales. $35+shipping What does it do? 1. Reads and backs up the EEPROM 2. Decrypts EEPROM Data and displays it in plain text. 3. Can write changes to the EEPROM 4. Calculate the password for the original seagate and WD drives all from a MicroSD card have questions?!?! Just ask! EDIT: as mentioned earlier in announcement post… if you purchased an ArdPromSD from me and want the new PicoPromSD… I’ll give you a $10 discount. I’ll also be selling a pogo pin adapter for $8
  3. Found an old xbox and a locked 1.5tb xbox drive stored away. The thing is I had a few xboxes back in the day and am not sure if the hard drive is from that xbox. I want to try it in the xbox. Before I do so if the drive is locked with an eeprom different from the xbox will it do any permanent damage? Just being cautious. Thanks in advance.
  4. This video is a quick way to dump your original Xbox eeprom directly from the motherboard with just a Raspberry Pi Pico. The code is written by myself in micropython and posted on Github. All you need is a soldering station and 24-30 gauge wire ( or a scrap usb cable you can cut up). This video is handy if you're trying to revive an old Xbox or unlock its HDD. The dump only takes a few seconds, and requires only 3 wires to be soldered from the Pico to the Xbox. Everything that you'll need: -Github Posting https://github.com/maxpower5544/Pico-ogxbox-eepromdumper -Raspberry Pi Pico https://amzn.to/47CXUfe -Solder Station Kit https://amzn.to/47CP3dB -26 Gauge Wire https://amzn.to/3vFO3Ir -Breadboard https://amzn.to/3tUOiyG
  5. OK... Just starting a separate thread for my next project. I mentioned it in a different thread... but figured better to keep info in one place dedicated for this project. It's a remake of my ArdPromSD project. With the ArdProm... it was limited by program space. I am remaking it with a different MCU to allow more program/variable space. This gives me more room to add to the previous project. One benefit of the remake is only applicable to rev1.6 MBs... will only power on when xbox is powered on instead of being on immediately when plugging in the board. What I have so far (basically all of the ArdPromSD features): Read EEPROM and save to SD card (each read saves a different file name) Read BIN file from SD and write it to EEPROM Things left to do: Feedback (in form of LEDs like before) Reset button EEPROM data decrypting (hoping... will save encrypted data in plain text. This will also allow me to save the eeprom.bin as <serial number>.bin so if you can backup a few xbox's and know which eeprom backup is to which xbox) Really hoping the last one will pan out... I will try my hardest. I plan on shrink the board a bit as well. The downfall... some of the parts will be a handful to hand solder... so DIY'ers may have some trouble. I do plan to open source it eventually I'll post updates here when I have them. Now that I have it working as stated above... I'll get to designing the PCB and ordering everything to try out. I'm hoping to have prototype Hardware up and running within 2 months (china timeframe dependent).
  6. Hi, I have a 1.4 revision Xbox which is modchipped with a generic Aladdin XT Plus2, it was modified many years back and was working normally when put away, Now when I turn it on, I get 1 green flash followed by red flashing of the LED. It does not matter the modchip I use which are all Aladdins, and have been proven tested/working in other consoles. The power LED initially flashes green once and then red. No video/audio on TV. I should add, it is only the left half of the LED that is flashing. I suspected it was due to the trace rot repair, but reversing this did not help. It was working normally when put away. The console powers up without even the front panel buttons connected. No solder splashes that I can see. Attempting to reverse the mod entirely (removing D0 point grounding and chip) I get FRAG.
  7. I have 6 ArdPromSDs from initial batch I’m selling at cost ($20) + shipping. Not sure if I’ll make more since this is a special case tool. Let me know if you’re interested. details:
  8. Hi all, Hoping to get some help on this one as i'm really stumped. Problem: I'm restoring an Xbox and trying to get a fresh built HDD paired with a motherboard using nulled (1's) key, but still getting E06. Steps I've taken: 1. Built a fresh drive using XBHDM, locked the HDD with all 1's, and verified it boots correctly into a working soft modded xbox with nulled HDD key in the EEPROM (all 1's). 2. Read the EEPROM of the target motherboard using PiPROM, edited the eeprom.bin file to null the HDD key with 1's and written this back to the EEPROM. 3. Read the EEPROM again and verified its indeed now all 1's in the HDD Key. 4. Installed the newly created and locked HDD from step 1 into the target motherboard. 5. Error 06 Other info that may or may not be relevant? * HDD i'm building is an original 8/10?GB Seagate drive, but i've also tried two original WD drives in step #1 and the same issue arises. * Target motherboard revision is a v1.1 Any ideas whats going on here?
  9. I want to change the hdd of my xbox with an ssd, because the optical drive is not working, but I know that I need the EEPROM to trick the xbox into thinking that the ssd is its original drive, but I dont really know how to do it without installing a custom firmware on the hdd and then be able to use an FTP to get it (the stock firmware doesn't allow the xbox to connect to a pc via ethernet). Then the only other way to do that is "hotswapping" but it requires an old computer with IDE connections but it's a bit difficult to find one. so if there is another way of doing this, let me know to try it Thank you in advance

    EEPROM bins

I need some EEPROM backup bins. Specifically: 1.NTSC-J 2.PAL-I 3.PAL-M and Regions: 1.Japan 2.Europe/Asia Can send them to me via message as to not share any HDD or Online Keys. I will not share them and will delete them when finished... I'm just using them to decrypt them and look at how the data looks for my eeprom reader/writer. Thank you in advance for your help! I will also sell you one of the new eeprom reader/writers at cost for your help when they are finished.
  11. For sale Xbox Original eeprom reader / writer Soldered using 60/40. Shielded usb cable 9 pin serial connector Tested and works! Asking $8.00 + $2.00 Canada post standard shipping. Total of $10.00 Canada Only! e-transfer only! PM if interested thanks.
  12. Hi. I just got a second xbox classic, but with the problem that it's missing the hard drive. It's hard-moded with xc-changer chip. I have some knowlage, but still need some help. My plan is to first backup the eeprom using rpi or arduino (i have both). After that I have to find a compatible hdd (or maybe ssd). And at the end I have to use the eeprom backup to change the hdd key using a pc (forgot the name of the program). Correct me if i'm wrong. I appreciate your help.
  13. I don't know why video mode resets to original mode, in my case to PAL, when i successfully switch to NTSC. It resets after cold boot. With SID softmod this not happens. I hate NTSC washedout boot screen when using xbox without virtaul eeprom.
  14. I have a Black xbox 1.6 Excalibur hard modded with Xecuter 2.6 and the xbox is running just fine and it seems there are no problems...I lost the original backup so made another with slayers disc, problem is when I try to read the backed up eeprom with Liveinfo Beta 3 I get this message (This EEprom could not be decrypted! This is not a Valid V1.0 or V1.1 EEprom image) So I tried to make a backup with config magic and get error4 eeprom is corrupt message... Should I be worried as xbox is running fine? or is there an easy way to fix the corrupt eeprom...thanks
  15. I'm searching for a firmware dump of the original SST 39LF020A from the LG-GDR-8163B to get the drive back up and running. Some how the flash with the "8050L.dld" went wrong under DOS and now the drive didn't get recognized in Windows or DOS (And the drive LED is always on). How ever, if someone has a working flashable dump of the SST 39LF020A with the XBox firmware would also be ok (Not to sure if i could flash that 8050L.dld file to the SST so, yeah.....) . Richt now I have desoldered that little b1tch and soldered it on the pcb for my flasher..... And I also found this post : https://jestineyong.com/obtaining-eeprom-bios-firmware-for-deadflashed-lg-gdr8163b-dvd-rom-drive/ but sadly no firmware bin attached there.
  16. Bad EEPROM

So I have this 1.1 that I replaced the EEPROM chip on at some point, years ago. I remember I did this because it was flashing red only. I don't know why I didn't try to just program the EEPROM, but I guess it doesn't matter, what's done is done. Anyways, years later I've dug it out and it still flashes red for bad EEPROM. I've built myself an EEPROM reader cable and tested it on some of my working units without issue. I can write and write the the EEPROM on this unit, and I've written a good EEPROM dump from another working 1.1 unit, but I still get the bad EEPROM flashing red led etc. Interestingly I can boot cromwell, but the video is all out of sync and it reports that the video mode is unknown. If I use xblast to reset system settings or manually change the video mode, none of it sticks after a reboot. I'm not really an expert at this sort of thing and I was hoping had maybe seen something similar.
  18. I bought a pre-modded Xbox on eBay, it’s a 1.6 with the LG-Hitachi drive and has a 500GB WD installed with XBMC running. Everything works great, but when I messaged the seller to ask about the EEPROM, he said he hadn’t nulled it but that I could do it with Rocky5’s tool should I ever need to. I was just wanting to future proof myself should the HDD provided fail down the years, but how has he managed to replace the HDD without nulling the EEPROM? I thought that was part of the whole softmod and HDD unlock process prior to swapping the drive out. So should the drive fail in future am I humped? Or has the EEPROM from the old HDD been ported over to the new 500GB one? Cheers!
  19. Is it Possible to retrieve my EEPROM via usb? Ive seen all the vids using PonyProg and have made a reader in the past for an old Xbox, my problem now is my old pc is long gone and all i have now is a laptop with 2 usb 3.0 and 1 usb-c ports no ethernet I can use a usb to ethernet converter. I also have a serial to ethernet cable. i could do this.... Xbox + eeprom cable + serial to ethernet cable + ethernet to usb. This sounds like a bad idea and I don't think Ponyprog likes usb. Aside from a mod chip what are my options. The box in question is a 1.2 which i intend to tsop, I also have a softmoded 1.6
  20. Hello guys, I have a faulty xbox that powers on and shutsdown by itself the first two power cycles (while bliking green/orange), and the it stays powered on for the third time while bliking red/green. The xbox does not show any image. I have a PAL system, and this happened when I used Enigma video mode switch (I have used it before with this console and everything worked just fine). From what I've read I suspect that the problem is some sort of corruption on the eeprom, so I decided to try read/erase/write the eeprom using a Raspberry PI. But after trying to redo all the solder work again and again (always trying to be very careful), PiPROM cannot find to manage any 0x54. Is it the solder work? Or it might be some other problem within the console (btw I'm using the console's PSU to power it). Best Regards
  21. Hello OG Xbox forums, I've worked myself into a pickle again. The short version: I need to get a file off of an HDD that throws an error 16 (won't boot, Corrupted dash) but still works. Can I get it off using a second Xbox and a file manager, or do I need to buy an adapter and use Xpolorer 360 to get it off? The long Version: While preparing to TSOP flash my Xbox, I was copying saves over from the had drive onto a memory card for safe keeping. However when that didn't work with the UnleashX dash I tried to switch over to the default dash. This corrupted the files and now the Xbox throws an error 16 whenever it tries to boot from the HDD. Since it is an error 16 I can't boot from disc since the Xbox preforms the time check before it checks the DVD drive, and since the Xbox was only softmoded I can't just format a new drive and throw it in. From what I've found online I can use CHIMP and my working TSOP'd Xbox to recover the dash files on this second one, however I need the EEPROM.bin file. Can I get it off using a file manager that can detect both drives using the working TSOP'd Xbox, can CHIMP find the EPROM.bin file on the slave HDD and recover from that, or do I need to purchase an IDE adapter to connect my Drive to a PC via XPLORER 360 and then transfer it over to the XBOX? Thanks.
  22. I messed up. Was fiddling around with configmagic trying to lock the HDD on my chipped Xbox 1.6 so I can transfer and use the HDD on my softmodded Xbox. I followed this guide here: https://www.biline.ca/xbox_uxe_hd2.htm I was able to update the EEPROM as stated and locked the HDD so it can be used on the softmodded Xbox. That worked fine. But now my chipped Xbox turns on but no picture or video whatsoever. I don't know what to do next...
  23. For the last year or two I've been working on reversing some of the data structures that have been left unresearched or incomplete by the old scene, not to such a hardcore degree as I would honestly like but off and on when I have the time. This spans from what most people have seen me put out like the Xbox LIVE account stuff but I also have an interest in FATX16/32 structuring, the various configuration/datastore sectors at the beginning of the Xbox hard drive, the 1BL/FBL/2BL/BIOS image structures and data packing, XBE header/certificate data, security, and structuring, and the EEPROM data and structuring - the fundamental data types that make up the Xbox Today I completed the EEPROM data structure - well I say "completed" but there are still some things like flags, bitpacking, and a single unlabeled 16bit value to truly finish up all the info on the data handling side of things - however, structurally I have mapped out all the EEPROM data including the notorious hardware section as well as reversing the XConfigChecksum into something much more legible, portable, and simply more correct than what's been sitting on the XboxLinux/XboxDev wiki's for the last decade and a half I didn't really feel posting something like this on Reddit would be the way to go, the constant Twitter-feed like nature of threads just buries information and I have always preferred forums for their organization - and besides, forums are where I started in modding and forums are what I ran/helped run for many years of my modding life Anyway to my point, if you're interested in the structure and/or (partial for now) handling of EEPROM data then I've posted all the info on my GitHub project. This information can be used to parse, edit, or build an EEPROM image from scratch for any revision of the Xbox (including 1.6 and 1.6b models). I'll likely make a tool for people to create/edit EEPROM images at some point but I've got a couple Xbox projects I've been working on for a while and would like to finish at least one of those before starting another and I'll stuff all this structuring information into a table on the project page soon or maybe edit the XboxDev wiki so it's easier for non-programming people to view and understand at a glance Thanks for reading (also, posting this in the general forum wasn't my first choice but this doesn't really fit into the topic of homebrew - it's more so R&D) This paragraph has nothing to do with the subject of my post but I just wanted to say something personal here. I post this kind of information and put out these various tools and answer these questions that most people don't have an answer to for the sole purpose of bettering or further educating and simply just passing on information I know to the few left in original Xbox scene and even though I might come off as such it's never really been an ego or "clout" thing for me with the original Xbox, I've owned an original Xbox since 2001 and it's purely a passion thing. All I'm really after with this hobby of research and modding of the Xbox is to leave the scene with correct information or at least as correct as I'm able to comprehend and express to others, which I'm sure the old members of the early scene tried to do as well. The reason the original Xbox still lives on is because of sites like this and the handful of people that still hold onto their interest of the original Xbox or their passion of tinkering. Some of you may know my username and others may not, I've seen people mention me as this sort of Xbox "guru" or "expert" and I don't know if I come across as such but I can say, there are many things I don't know, many things I feel I'll never know, and a lot of times I feel like I barely know anything but I know objectively this isn't entirely true because there's a lot I know about the Xbox (and Xbox 360 for that matter) and yet it doesn't stop me from feeling dumb much of the time. Everything I know about computers, the Xbox/Xbox 360, data, structuring, programming, etc. is all self-taught and if you want to learn the type of stuff I know then you absolutely can teach yourself these things and it doesn't necessarily need to be on the software side of things, if you want to know hardware then you can teach yourself that as well - push yourself to learn, you are your best teacher. If you're part of the Xbox scene, whether you're a complete noob or have been around forever, whether we've had good/bad interactions in the past or maybe in the future, know that I appreciate you regardless of your knowledge or "status" and know that I hold no negative feelings towards anyone left in this scene and I probably never will. Not entirely sure why I just wrote this rant but hopefully no one minds, I'm just glad I'm not alone in this hobby of playing around with a 20 year old outdated machine
  24. long story short, ages ago I softmodded a 1.1 machine and naturally locked the drive after upgrading it. shortly after I tsoped it though, and zeroed and password- without backing the original or unlocking the drive. I tried chimp261812 and neither master password (XBOXSCENE and TEAMASSEMBLY) worked. the master password *should* be a string of 32 T (it's a samsung drive) but chimp won't let me input a different master password. there's the hddkey.txt option but it only accepts 16 bytes of hexadecimal characters, unless I'm missing something it's not related to the master password. there's also the linux terminal but I'm not sure what I'm doing here. any ideas?
  25. Need a checkup on building a EEPROM reader from a person with a background on electronics. Can I use two leds in series instead of a 5.1V zener diode rated at 1W for a EEPROM xbox original reader? Can a 3.0V coin battery or 4X1.2V AA batteries @ 4.8V be used as a external powersupply directly? Would 4.8V have too high of mAh or current for the EEPROM chip? I plan to use a serial to RJ45 with a connector to ethernet as a cable. I am using a bread board to create the circuit. I plan to use the materials I already have.
