About Me

  1. Hi peeps, i just upgraded my 160Gb to a 500Gb Sata. New 80 wire ide cable etc, cloned with Chimp 261812 which took 6 hours to clone drive F where the games are installed........ Rebooted xbox and F is only showing 120Gb, so i used XBpartitioner to resize it which deleted all my games lol aggrrraaaaaaaaa..... Then F only was showing just under 300Gb ? The only way i could get my 500Gb was split it over F and G. My setup is Xbox v1.2 Softmod Rocky5 latest version Sata adapter the green one with the 2 capacitors and jumper on the right 80 wire IDE cacble 500Gb Sata WD HDD Thanks all for any advice, i really appreciate it.
  2. I bought a pre-modded Xbox on eBay, it’s a 1.6 with the LG-Hitachi drive and has a 500GB WD installed with XBMC running. Everything works great, but when I messaged the seller to ask about the EEPROM, he said he hadn’t nulled it but that I could do it with Rocky5’s tool should I ever need to. I was just wanting to future proof myself should the HDD provided fail down the years, but how has he managed to replace the HDD without nulling the EEPROM? I thought that was part of the whole softmod and HDD unlock process prior to swapping the drive out. So should the drive fail in future am I humped? Or has the EEPROM from the old HDD been ported over to the new 500GB one? Cheers!
  3. I am trying to do some tinkering with my 1.6b xbox, just some ftping saves and some work with configmagic. I want to keep the console as stock as possible, I was going to use SID but to be honest I much prefer to use Rocky's softmod tool 1.1.8 as it is known as the best and most reliable. Just 3 questions I have about Rocky's softmod tool 1.1.8. specifically 1. After I uninstall the softmod when I am done, when the gamesave exploit is loaded, is it safe to overwrite Tdata and Udata with my own files? In other words does the exploit load in memory like SID so I can delete everything on E and write my own files? 2. When uninstalling the softmod, it states in the manual that the gamesaves exploits will be reinstalled to e and UDDAE exploit will be put in place to reinstall the mod if needed. How would I go about uninstalling the UDDAE exploit? I want to keep the system stock after I have done a few things. 3. Does Rockys softmod install anything to the hard drive (like config area) or other parts to the system other than C and E drive? Thanks
  4. Hi Guys I recently upgraded the hdd on my OG xbox. I originally wanted to go with a 128gb Sand Disk ssd. I cloned the drive and it showed as locked and cloned. However when trying to boot I get the xbox logo, the the screen just goes blank. I then tried the exact same thing with a 500GB WD hdd and it worked fine. Do you guys have any idea as to why it would boot from the hdd and not the ssd? They both have the exact same cloned data? Note: I had another spare ssd and tried it with that and it also wouldn't boot? Is there a particular method needed for using an ssd on a softmodded xbox?
  5. Hey guys, new member...but not new to the scene. I have been a member over at XBMC4XBOX for years. I initially modded this box in 2010/2011-ish. I had run XBMC on it for my daughter for a number of years, with the help of the fine folks over at X4X, have updated it several times...added some SNES ROMS and had quite a bit of fun messing around with it and the scene. As it got to be a little longer in the tooth for HD streaming, and several devices that are smaller and much more powerful that can do much more, I packed it away. My son is now 15, and loves all things gaming. I would like to get this back up and running with more ROMS that he and his friends can enjoy. Several months ago, I updated the dash with Rocky5 1.17 disc, but could never get anything to boot off of it. I only got Rocky5's gray dash, and the downloader working. XBMC would boot to a red error screen, and XBMC Emustation/XBMC4Gamers would not do anything...no matter how much I tried. I posted over at XBMC4XBOX several times to get some help, but really received no answers. In the last few weeks I have found this site, and have been reading as much as I can. I got the box out today, and had forgotten that in a fit of desperation, I tried HEXEN 2018 to try to wipe the mod and start over. It still had UnleashX as the main dash, and booted right up to it. XBMC 3.5 was still in the E: folder, but still booted to the red printed error screen. When I tried to switch to it as a dashboard I couldn't get UnleashX back. I put HEXEN back in and ran through some tools and kept getting more errors. Just dug Rocky5 out again, and ran through the softmod updater. It is a stock (other than the softmod) 1.4 that I believe was warranty repaired by Microsoft at one time. I purchased it from a friend at work, and it had previously been opened up, but no mods had been done. Booted fine to stock dash with all his game saves. I had done the original mod with the Replay card and 007 with Krayzie's, I believe. It worked great, and I was constantly reading and messing with updates and dashboard appearance for it when it was in my daughter's room. I would really like to clean this thing up. Rocky5 is now updated, and I installed the XBMC4Gamers, and booted to the dash...it worked! Now that I am a little more encouraged, I want to get this as clean as possible before adding ROMS, etc... I feel all of my attempts have left junk behind, and I want it gone...Is there a utility or anything that will get my softmod to a point that it has only what it needs to run? Then I can begin again. Like a "fresh install" or "refresh"? I have old XBMC builds, and who knows what else cluttering up the disk. Or possibly a folder structure diagram that I can follow, and clean up manually? I had incorrectly assumed that the softmod updater or HEXEN would wipe everything for me, but that was not the case. I've poured through both discs and have not seen anything like this in any menus. Thanks in advance...love the site Kevin
  6. I'm hoping someone can clarify the process for upgrading my HDD as looking to store games/emulator etc as the end result. I've already prepped the board for a TSOP mod with the links whilst soldering on extra RAM. To upgrade my HDD my understanding is the following: Softmod First? TSOP Then can fit bigger HDD? I've managed to find a unicorn WD Blue IDE 320GB HDD and thinking I could just image the drive and clone using Macrium? Then extend the partition to fill the 320GB drive I have - Would that work or do I need to use any extra/special tools? The information is available in places but it all seems scattered some just say TSOP but others say to TSOP you need to softmod first? It's been a while since I've had time to play with it again - booted up and played some games on it for the first time since fitting the RAM months ago only last night! Thanks
  7. Hey everyone, I'm new here. I have two OG Xboxes. The first I bought pre-softmodded and which cannot be turned off by the power button, I gather because a trace was eroded; I did take out the clock cap and cleaned it up, however. And the second I softmodded myself as a project because a guy was giving it away for $5. This one doesn't have power/tray eject button problems, however, it did start to make a buzz (the HDD?) or loud fan noise before this happened, but I'm not sure if that's normal for this model. Yesterday it died on me as I was playing a game, for the first time. I took it off power and gave it a rest and then tried again, and it died after a few seconds. Now it doesn't turn on at all. I did some research and given that this one never seemed to have leaked capacitor fluid, and given the caps all over are fine, no swelling, I think it must be the power supply. I thought I would check with you guys first, as I am not very computer savvy and if all I have to do is solder these, I'm not sure I could do it myself tbh, or if it would be cheaper to just hire someone who already has the tools and know how. But I need to know if these are indeed the culprit.
  8. Hello OG Xbox forums, I've worked myself into a pickle again. The short version: I need to get a file off of an HDD that throws an error 16 (won't boot, Corrupted dash) but still works. Can I get it off using a second Xbox and a file manager, or do I need to buy an adapter and use Xpolorer 360 to get it off? The long Version: While preparing to TSOP flash my Xbox, I was copying saves over from the had drive onto a memory card for safe keeping. However when that didn't work with the UnleashX dash I tried to switch over to the default dash. This corrupted the files and now the Xbox throws an error 16 whenever it tries to boot from the HDD. Since it is an error 16 I can't boot from disc since the Xbox preforms the time check before it checks the DVD drive, and since the Xbox was only softmoded I can't just format a new drive and throw it in. From what I've found online I can use CHIMP and my working TSOP'd Xbox to recover the dash files on this second one, however I need the EEPROM.bin file. Can I get it off using a file manager that can detect both drives using the working TSOP'd Xbox, can CHIMP find the EPROM.bin file on the slave HDD and recover from that, or do I need to purchase an IDE adapter to connect my Drive to a PC via XPLORER 360 and then transfer it over to the XBOX? Thanks.
  9. I recently did a softmod to my xbox and now it's using unleashx. Once done, the led changes to the orange color while running. Is there a way to change it back to green or does it do that on purpose because of it being modded and running a new dash?
  10. Anyone have a strong opinion on which they prefer and why? I went with the softmod, but what are the pro's / con's of this compared to other methods? Especially modchips.
  11. Hi! I have a softmoded xbox with dualboot (when i click the power button it boots UnleashX, but when the DVD drive is opened - xbmc4xbox). So i want xbmc to be my main dashboard. UnleashX is located in C:/Dashboard, while XBMC is in E:/Alt Dashboard (it's here, so i could boot it, if the dvd drive is opened). Should i temporarily install EvoX and then swap the UnleashX and XBMC directories (xbmc will go in C:/Dashboard and UnleashX - in E:/Alt Dashboard) using the build-in file manager or FileZilla? Or there is some other way to do this?
  12. After upgrading my xbox HDD, it not only boots and runs 10 times slower, but the DVD drive now doesn't read any disk I put into the disk drive even official xbox games. It just says unknown. Now I don't mind the system booting up slower, but not reading anything in the disk drive is a major problem. I followed this tutorial exactly (I used the exact parts and followed all steps)
  13. I got an 1.6 xbox softmoded and I want to install an aladdin chip. Is there any possibility Softmod interfeer with modchip? Am I good to do it?
  14. Hello All, Long time listener, first time caller here. I have never modded an XBOX before, but looks like a fun project and I wanted to run my plan by the gurus on this forum to avoid any potential pitfalls (i.e. destroying the data on the original HDD doing something stupid being a newbie) after watching a ton of YouTube videos on the subject. I have an OG XBOX v1.6 that was modded and setup around 6-7 years ago. The motherboard died and I am looking to swap that drive into a new system and upgrade it to an unlocked SATA HDD (I don't want to have to deal with locked HDDs anymore). I have no knowledge of how it was built originally aside from the HDD password, but I love how it is laid out and boots up directly in to the emulator menu, etc and want to keep that. There is no evidence of any hard modding on the motherboard (no chip, no bridged soldering, etc), so I am assuming some version of soft mod. I have two working units (v1.2 & v1.4) and both are currently soft modded with the latest Rocky5 build with stock HDDs. I did install XMBC-Emustation on one of them, but aside from that, they have nothing special going on with them and I don't need anything off those drives. 30K foot view of my plan is as follows: 1. TSOP mod one of the working units and flash the BIOS with Evox M8 with F & G (HeXen 2020). 2. Take the currently modded HDD (400GB) out of the dead unit and using Victoria, remove the user password. 3. Install that HDD in the new TSOP modded unit and test (I assume that since the password is removed from the drive and the BIOS is flashed, it will simply boot even though I have no idea how the HDD was originally prepared). 4. Assuming steps 1 - 3 go as planned, convert the TSOP unit to an 80-pin cable and IDE/SATA adapter and clone the HDD to a WD Blue 500GB SATA using Chimp. -Am I correct in that I should pick the TSOP hard mod option in Chimp even though the HDD itself is soft modded? -Since my new SATA is bigger than the drive I am cloning, pick option 2 for select partitions and pick option 4 so partition G takes up all the remaining space on the larger drive 5. Shut it all down and remove the stock hard drive and install the SATA in the unit and hopefully it all boots up correctly. 6. Assuming everything up to this point went well, clone the new SATA drive with Chimp to another WD Blue 500GB (this time I can just pick the full disk clone option) 7. TSOP the second working unit and install the cloned drive and have 2 working, upgraded units. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions. I appreciate the feedback!
  15. I've softmodded my first xbox and I upgraded the HDD and I've heard about the wonders of Emulators, Homebrew ect ect, now I'm wondering where do I download emulators lets say for the N64 or Sega Genesis? All help is appreciated.
  16. Hi guys, So I was given an Xbox 1.0 from a friend that is chipped and has a 120gb HDD. Unfotunately the chip does not have support for HDD larger than 120gb and I am unable to flash the chip's BIOS (evox says it is not flash writeable). I'm basically in a bind to find a guide on how to softmod this box and tsop it from a modchip because I don't know what type of chip it is and how to disable it. Pictures below: Apologies for the very dusty MB, lol! As always any guidance will be highly appreciated.
  17. Anyone here has copy of the new Softmod Installer 6 Deluxe plus the USB version (SID6) that they can share?
  18. Hello, guys Today I updated my softmoded Xbox with Rocky5 softmod and xbmx4gamers ...everything was ok, until I started to download artwork downloader which is over 600 mb and placed it in E: In the same time I uploaded a game with size of 4gb by mistake in E: again instead of F: So, now the xbox starts green animation and flashes like to start the dashboard, but continue on black screen. My only suggestion is that I consumed the entire E: and on that drive is the xbmc4gamers folder, too....I dont know, but if the dashboard need some space on start maybe that cause the black screen...any ideas to help??? Also, is it possible to connect the hdd to a pc and xplorer360 app to erace that game from E: and to make some space on that drive??? Any help is welcome! Thank you in advance!!!
  19. I have a PAL Xbox, and I need to switch the region. If anyone in the US or maybe Canada could help me out here that would be great. Just trying to avoid the overpriced ebay shipping from the UK.
  20. It's possible to unlock and relock the Seagate HDD over the COM port. I wrote up some instructions and a python script to automate the process. Files and instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X9YJdMUA1vZKSTEyvfA2OhaHScy0f6wzLk0nE7q9vLw/edit?usp=sharing
  21. I have a backup of my entire softmod/og xbox hdd that i did when i did the softmod on it. It's in a .iso file. It contains everything on it from c,d,f partitions and has the backup of the eeprom in it. My evolutionx dash, skins, few programs like dvdtoxbox. I softmoded it with the sid 5.0 and game exploit, had Evolutionx dash. The hdd i upgraded to 360gb hdd. I must have made the backup before i started burning games to the drive. I have no clue what i did with the original drive, i probably chucked it as i had the backup. How do i take this backup .iso and put it on a new hdd to put in my xbox as there doesn't seem to be any tutorials on doing this specifically? So bit of background; I'm not a noob to softmodding og xbox's, but last time i did a softmod was before the rocky5 method existed. My xbox is stuck on and will only boot to the xbox dash after an error 21. This happened after i accidentally clicked on connect to xbox live on call of duty and it updateed. I read somewhere there are 2 files you need to delete once a game is copied to hd in order to prevent this, but i can't remember what they are? Any help there would be good to. I cannot ftp into the hdd anymore as ftp won't find the console. Also i tried burning the Hexen2018 to disk, but that won't boot, and have since learned you need softmod dash for it to boot so no luck there. Next i tried xboxhdm23usb beta3 as i have a few spare external 2.5 dives in external enclosures. Only thing i did here was put the eeprom in root folder and tried basic build as is first to see if it will work. But again no luck. It finds the hdd's, but keeps coming up with -h and -d errors when i choose option 5 or xboxhd program. Can anyone help?
  22. I've got 4 Xboxes I've softmodded for my family using Rocky's softmod tool, and I nulled the keys as well during that process (all zeros, but will soon upgrade to all ones to be compatible with Insignia - hopefully its an easy process to upgrade the softmod dashboard/tool). I currently have a larger drive in one of them that has the dashboard, emulators, and games set up just the way I want it. I want to put larger hard drives in the other three and have all four be the exact same setup. Rather than cloning the stock hard drive to a larger drive during the upgrade process and then spending the lengthy time FTPing over the hundreds of MB's of data with the data rate transmission limitations and drop outs inherent with FTP, since all the XBOX's have nulled keys I was planning on just taking the larger drive I've already set up and cloning it 3 times - and then putting those cloned drives into the other 3 xboxes. Much simpler and quicker. However, with Insignia needing the Serial Number, HDD Key, and Online Key for each Xbox would cloning a hard drive from one xbox and putting that newly created hard drive into another xbox change the way the serial number or online key is read in the "newly upgraded" Xbox and make it incompatible with Insignia? Or does it not matter as it will just pull the serial number and online key from the mobo and doing what I described above will still be compatible with Insignia? Thanks all!
  23. Hello all. I'm a new member of the forum and I have been playing around with the OG XBOx for a couple of years now. I never owned an XBOX before so my knowledge of the history is relatively limited. I do enjoy the versatility of the original XBOX, and I am amazed by the huge community and custom stuff that exists out there. Some of the machines I acquire (~40%) come with the modchip installed, but still have the original HDD. In the past, I removed the modchip because I could not find any info about it, and proceeded with a softmod, disk upgrade and so on. However, after I discovered this forum, I am having second thoughts and I am thinking maybe it is better to keep the modchip and follwo a differen approach. So, the question is, if there's an advanctage of the old modchips (probable Alladin II, I think) versus the more recent softmods. thank you very much in advance! Michalis
  24. So, I'd like to be able to retain the original Xbox experience as faithfully as possible, but I also want to acquire some of the otherwise-unobtainable DLC for games like Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden. Theoretically, would I be able to install a software mod, add the DLC for those games, and then uninstall it? For the record, I do have the actual discs for all of the games I want to play.
  25. I've done the softmod with rocky5 and changed to NTSC in nk patcher and everythings good with componant cable picture wise in dashboard. I've tried launching tiger woods 2004 pal game via disc and just get blank screen ? is there a specific setup in the video options to get pal games to work once you change to NTSC ?
