  1. Introduction: Designing the "Dual 80mm Fan Caddy" was a nightmare... It's been something I've been working on for a few years now. Tolerances were extremely tight, much of it had to be spot-on to fit correctly. The design has been split into separate pieces to better suit 3D printing. This reduces the chance of failures and helps produce quality prints. I was able to send a half dozen samples to volunteers for testing sometime ago. The results were far better than I had expected, I've still not had the chance to see for myself but I trust the feedback that was given to me.
  2. Work in games and have every generation of XDK. However the original is one I know very little about. I think I messed with it like a decade ago and got the Neighborhood set-up but don't remember anything beyond that. Does anyone have an idiot-proof guide to getting this thing running retail games? I picked a bunch of JP titles up recently and really want to try them out. Apologies for the stupid questions but it's REALLY hard to find any information these days. The SEO on old Xbox stuff is terrible. Any help would be sincerely appreciated!
  3. As there might be a couple people out there who want to own an Xbox Alpha Development kit but don’t want to spend the Cash they cost I thought I just write up a guide how to build one yourself with off the shelf parts! This is not the first guide about this topic out there but hopefully the most detailed and helpfull! I’m going to do this as a picture supported step-by-step guide so it should be easy to follow for anybody. Let’s start with the parts used in the Alpha2 Console: -Intel VC820 Desktop Board -128MB RD Ram (Kingston KVR800X 18-8/128) -733Mhz Slot 1 CPU (Part number SL3XN) -250Watt ATX PSU (ATNG Model: PS-250S) -20GB IDE HDD (Fujitsu MPF3204AT) -3,5” FDD (Sony MPF920-C) -DVD Drive (Hitachi GD-7000) -64MB Geforce3 (180-P0050-0000-A05) -Network Card (Intel Pro/100) -Soundcard (Wolfson Micronics WM9707_AMR_EV1_Rev2) -USB Card (Xircom Portgear PGPCI2 ) Now on to the parts you need to buy for a basic bootable setup: -Intel VC820 Desktop Board (CC820 should also work!) -128MB RD Ram -733Mhz Slot1 CPU -Any ATX PSU 250Watt or more -IDE HDD 20GB or bigger -Any DVD Drive that reads self-burned CD-r -64mb Geforce 3 NV20 Video Card ->more details a bit later! -Intel Pro/100 Network Card That’s the minimum that is needed to get the alpha to boot the recovery CD. If you want to be able to do anything except looking at the Recovery Screen you need some more parts: -2 Port USB Card that uses an Opti Firelink 82C861 Chipset -Xbox Controller to USB Adapter +Xbox Controller -Wolfson Micronics Soundcard (or the recreated Version) -Any Case to install it all to. (The original case for the alphas is the GlobalWin YCC-802) That’s how my stack off parts for the alpha looks like: Once you have all the parts together let’s start by putting it together! Guess I don’t have to cover how to install the CPU, Ram, Video Card, PSU, Network card, Audio Card and the Drives. The end result should look like this. It’s not important in which pci port the usb and lan card are installed. BUT it is important that the lan card is installed as the Alpha won’t boot otherwise!!! When it’s all put together turn it on and check that it properly posts and there are no errors or whatever before continuing! Now on to burning a recovery CD! (Thanks to Borman for releasing the May2001 Alpha2 recovery! All credit goes to him for the release!) You can find the files in the download section and can simply download them. Here's a direct link to the files on an external Server: Alpha Recoveries and VGA Bios Once downloaded just use ImgBurn (or any other iso burning software) to write the May2001 recovery to a cd-r disc. Pop that disc into the DVD drive off your alpha and you should see the Xbox animation and should be greated by this recovery Screen afterwards: Now (if you haven’t done it earlier) plug in the Controller using the matching adapter and Press any button to start the recovery. The progress bar should show how far the progress is. It shouldn’t take any longer than 5 Minutes to finish and you will see this screen. Then remove the recovery disc from the drive and reboot. You should then be greeted by the following screen where you can set a name for your alpha console. Congratulations your Alpha Development kit is now fully working and ready to be used! Soundcard: I recreated the Soundcard to build a completely working alpha kit for myself as the original Alpha soundcards are as rare as the original alphas. If you need one for your build just drop me a message and I can build a couple more! Graphics Card: The video card is an important part of this build so here’s a little extra information about that part. The Card needs to be an NV20 Core Card with 64mb. 32MB cards might also work but we want to be as close as possible so buy a 64mb card to not get into trouble! I successfully tested 2 card from 2 different vendors: -Medion MS-8838 Geforce3 200ti -MVGA-NVG3T2A 64MB Many other NV20 core cards should work and I gladly extend that list if you used another card on your build! J Flashing the engineering Bios is NOT needed it is only a cosmeticall detail you might enjoy. The motherboard does also not need to be on a special Bios version or anything. Troubleshooting: You Get a blinking black cursor and no Xbox boot animation? ->You might have forgotten to install the Lan card, got a wrong one or your Nvidia Card is not supported! Your DVD-drive doesn’t spin up and you end up with an intel Network card boot/bios Screen? ->Something might have gone wrong with the CD you burned or your drive can’t read the cd-r! Could also be a problem with the boot order! Check that in the Bios the dvd drive should be the first boot device! If you have any questions about the build or anything just drop me a PM!
  4. Bought a Xbox at the local boot sale recently, after opening it up the caps look like they need replacing. Pretty sure I have read on here that the 1.2 usually has 3 caps not the 5 as on most so I just wanted to check if this is right or if I have got that wrong. It has the conexant chip and a thomson dvd drive if that is of any help. The guy had a couple for sale but this one has the 3 little buttons on the front left so I bought it hoping it still had the chip fitted. It does indeed have a X2.3B Lite and the hdd is a 120gb so I assume it was done back in the day, I have only just had time to open it up so I need to do some searching to see what that chip is all about. My main issue for now is ordering the right caps so if anyone could confirm the version from my explanation I would appreciate it. Can post a pic of board if needed. Thanks Cush
  5. Forgot to post this here, i finally installed this thing last month. I’m very proud of this i’ve never really tackled anything this difficult. Best part is, it worked on the first try. I posted about this awhile back looking for advice, but i decided to jump right in and do it after being afraid to for so long. But wow this mod blew me away. Too bad i didn’t install this in my main xbox (Don’t worry about the long cables, i shortened them to the appropriate length after testing)
  6. I finally got around to installing one of the LED kits that I've had lying around forever. Not sure why the colors are so off, but it actually looks cooler in the pics lol. It's swappable between blue and green or both at once. I was amazed that I actually glows through the silver jewel. Didn't feel the need for controller ports since it's already pretty bright. Photos

Hi everyone, I have a xbox debug kit for sale. Its the transculent green, unopened xbox with the original seals intact. Ofcourse with a green transculent controller, 128mb ram and the xdk launcher dashboard. Price €800
  8. Hey y’all, so I want to convert a 1.6 retail og Xbox to a debug kit. I want to do this because I want to dip my feet into software development for the Xbox but how do I get this going?
  9. Xbox original softmodding kit. $40 USA shipped Cashapp or PayPal goods and services.
  10. Hey Guys! new member here but used the site for research a couple of times and seems like a great community here. I have a og xbox debug kit that turns on but gets stuck on the xbox logo after the animation. it doesnt load into the dashboard/xdk launcher. Would anyone know the cause of this? None of the seals have been broken so i dont know if i should take it apart or not... Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!
  11. Hi all, Please let me know if I did something wrong with my post, I didn't see a ton of rules about classifieds. I don't have a ton of experience with the OG Xbox, most of my time was spent back in the day on Xbox 360 mods but I acquired and kept these consoles over time, but don't need to hold onto them anymore. I know this is also my first post, so If anyone wants feedback for my accounts from eBay, se7ensins, Reddit, tcgplayer, timestamped photos/videos/video chats, whatever, let me know. First off is this debug kit. I know nothing about it other than it was opened at some point. I fired it up the other day and it sounds like a fan bearing is going out on it. Only interesting thing on it was the audio tool pictured. I know nothing about where the console came from other than it has two tags saying "MS ASSET #" with two different different numbers. I heard from the previous owner it came out of a studio in the Redmond area. $250 + ship Crystal Xbox with converted 120v power supply and X3 modchip. The previous owner said this is a European console they imported, swapped the power supply, installed an X3 modchip, and a 320GB hard drive. I just reflashed it today with the X3 BIOS and Avalaunch is configured as the current launcher. $250 + ship Here are two prototype Krypton Xbox 360 Controllers I have too. Not OGxbox, but I thought they may be of interest to some. I'm thinking $85 for the 1st with the better label and $80 for the 2nd one in slightly more used shape. Payment through Paypal preferred. Goods & Services works best, but please add fees according to https://thefeecalculator.com/ if going that route.
  12. I have a Dev Kit and a Debug Kit, and I've decided that I don't really need both so I'm selling my Debug Kit. I plan on listing it on eBay, but wanted to give folks here a chance at it first in hopes it goes to a collector here that is looking for one. The labels on the bottom are punctured (by me during repair), but I can provide a replica label set for a small fee (labels will show console's actual serial number). When I acquired it, it was fragging. The HDD ended up being the culprit, so I replaced it with one from a stock Xbox and installed the XDK Dashboard. It currently boots up and runs just fine. I will include the original HDD that came with it in case you want to try to get it working. If you can fix the HDD, it may still have interesting stuff on it. On the HDD that is in it, I have it modded so that it will run retail games and apps (in addition to debug games). Aside from fixing it, I also cleaned the Xbox inside and out thoroughly. I used to repair game consoles for a living for a company for a few years, so rest assured it was well taken care of. The clock cap was leaking when I got it. I removed it, cleaned the residue and there don't seem to be any trace-rot symptoms. I can also install a new clock-cap if asked. The case is in great condition overall. There is a small crack on the back right next to the case screw (the top is the same as Halo/EU units and could be swapped if someone really wanted to). Can provide more photos if needed. I do not know which studio this Xbox came from. I purchased it from its original owner (according to the seller). When asked, here's what he said about the unit: The seller didn't respond to my questions later after I bought it. I recently reached back out to him to ask for more details. Will update this thread if he replies. I can provide seller references if needed. I also have a 100% reputation eBay seller account (same username) since 2009. You can find me in various og Xbox forums going back to xbox-scene. I have an idea of what I think this is worth but am looking for offers. Please no low-ball offers. I'm not looking to rip anyone off, but don't plan on undervaluing it either. If no reasonable offers come through, I'll be putting it up on eBay. Will be shipped via FedEx (unless otherwise arranged). Shipping from Arizona (USA) w/ tracking, insurance, and signature-required delivery. Will be packaged safely for transit. Payments through PayPal. Thanks!
  13. recently got a debug kit I have been trying to look for ways on how to FTP 2 debug kit. The only media this would read that will allow you to FTP is the dashboard Avalanche. These were made on the Old Source codes that's why it can read it. But you really want the Alpha version it's a special version (Alpha v0.49.1) This is the only Dash or program this debug kit will play. Once it boots up go into file manager using the CD to get there. Copy files from DVD drive into the E partition you can make a folder call it apps and place individually everything on the contents of the CD you made... once that is done you can reboot the system open Avalanche go into FTP settings. You want to change your IP address to whatever you have on flashfxp or Windows .. once you are linked you can pull off any programs that you want to make a copy for yourself. Another thing you can do is download an app called retail game loader V 1.20. This app will allow you to play retail games as well as emulators or anything the original Modded Xbox can play. How you use it is once you FTP to hard drive and is complete reset the system then under xdk launcher click on the newly installed app retail disc loader V 1.20... once that is launched it will look like the exact same Dash except now you can load anything you want. I was giving a lot of help from a lot of different sources in order to make this post to this form. Please if you know any other tricks leave a comment below if not this will work for sure I've tried it myself 100%. Thank you very much for reading have a great Frankie d
  14. I have a broken debug kit Xbox that I'm hoping to salvage and get working again and could use some pointers. It starts to boot up but hangs at the X screen during bootup (no Microsoft logo). There is some trace-rot and corrosion present on the board, and I'm hoping it's not bad enough to be causing these issues. The clock capacitor was leaking but it was very minor. High-res photos of the board: https://imgur.com/a/sESsyvi There's also a bodge-job done to the underside of the board, which I'm not sure what it does. The orange D0 wire was added by me. The thermal tape was there when I got it. The hard drive does not make any sound at all, so I hooked the HDD up to a PC and my PC couldn't read it (still no spin-up or reading sounds coming from the drive). I suspect that the drive may be broken. I swapped in a similar model HDD's logic board (first part of model was the same, last part was slightly different) and then the drive spun-up, but was clicking ('click of death' sound), but I'm not sure if this is from the drive being busted or from it being the wrong logic board. I burned 5849_Recovery to a disc, swapped in a different (unlocked) Xbox HDD and tried to boot from the disc and it hung at the same spot in the bootup process. I tried a different DVD drive too just in case. The fact that it's still misbehaving after taking out the supposedly-bad HDD makes me wonder if a BIOS flash went wrong. I have a copy of the debug BIOS, but no 1MB modchips on hand. I only have an Aladdin XT+2 and a DUO X2 Lite, neither of which can handle a 1MB BIOS. So I can get a better modchip and boot from that, but I'm not sure if that's even the problem. I've also tried swapping the power supply with the same one from a different Xbox to no avail. Any tips?
  15. Decided I would tear down my dev kit because there was a rattling noise inside of it and I wanted to see its guts. The rattling turned out to be the GPU fan, and I decided I should film its guts for everyone to see. Now if you don't have one, or don't want to open the one you've got, you can see inside, too! Pictures will come if I ever get a decent camera. If anyone has a Raptor card I can pair with it, please send me a PM. I don't actually know anything about developing games for the xbox, but I'd like to have a full kit in case I ever do start developing. I also might be willing to sell this to someone that wants to use it for its intended purpose. It's pretty worthless as a collectors item because it has no code on it, has a prominent cosmetic defect, and has been opened.
  16. I recently acquired a Development Kit (DVT4) and decided to take some high-quality photos of the daughter boards from this console. They're pretty rare and obscure and I wanted to take some good photos for preservation's sake. I'm going to get a Raptor PCI card soon, so I'll add photos of that too later. More info- These boards were in development kits and consisted of two parts: DVD emulation board. When paired with a Raptor XDK PCI card installed into a computer, it allows a developer to master a game disc before sending a final copy to Microsoft for review, and later into production. This allowed them to test loading scenarios and figure out where certain files for the game should be physically located on a disc in order to reduce load times. When loading a level for a game, for example, all the files needed for that level could be grouped together on the disc to reduce the amount of skipping around the laser needed to do, which decreases load times. There is also a USB port on this card. While it uses a USB connector, it's actually a JVS port. This was used for hooking up arcade sticks and special components built for Sega Chihiro arcade cabinets, which is based on the Xbox's motherboard. Serial debugging port This allows a developer to get debugging information from the Xbox to see how their code is behaving on real hardware. When writing software, it's useful to see technical info about when and how a bug happens in order to fix it. This board connects to a PC's serial port to read diagnostic info from the console in real time. 17. Hello, I recently decided to mess with my recently purchase Xbox 360 development kit and i am having some trouble. I would like to get it set up to Xbox neighborhood and play debug games on it but Xbox neighborhood cant seem to find my system. If possible, could some one walk me through how to set up Xbox neighborhood, how to use it, and finally how to load debug games to it. just to clarify, my system is not a JTAG or RGH, it is an official dev kit so i dont know if the process between the two is much different. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Aidan
  18. What you see is what you get, brand new in package X3CE Xecuter 3 Kit. Accepting offers.
  19. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Prototype-Xbox-Development-Kit-With-Extras/143246533634?hash=item215a28a402:g:KHQAAOSw9kxcx5ms Prototype Xbox Development Kit XDK "DVT4"Console works, is in great condition especially given rarity and age, DVD drive functions and reads disc's.Never opened all asset tags intact. "Note: not all DVT4 units have the prototype tags just the early run models, which this unit is."
  20. Can always use more right? Have a softmod (though im not sure about that-) that came with about 100 CD-R's (OG game disc copies obv's) and a controller. Ive added a second controller since then, an official component HD cable set and about 30 OG games including my current fave- Secret Weapons Over Normandy.
