  1. If you are doing the hard drive upgrade after you have flashed the TSOP you can try formatting it as NTSC first to see if that does the job for you. If it doesn't work you can reformat the drive as PAL and then run Enigmah-X to switch it afterwards. Once the TSOP is flashed you are always able to boot up a Hexen disc or something to fix any hard drive issues.
  2. Yeah, you can use his disc to install XBMC4Gamers. It's a great dash too. His XBMC dashboard versions are definitely more work to get everything looking just how you want it, but once they are set up they are amazing.
  3. The capacitor will leak and when it does it can literally eat through the traces of the motherboard. Removing the capacitor and cleaning up the area helps prevent this. If it is not removed it's just a matter of time before the Xbox quits working. On the 1.6 boxes they upgraded the caps to a higher quality and it's not currently an issue, in fact they are required on a 1.6 for the Xbox to even boot. Any system below a 1.6 needs it removed as soon as possible.

    The Foxbox

Excellent work, I really like it.
  5. Haha, no. I think he was a true genius though. He figured out stuff that made the Xbox the moddable beast it is today. While he was de-lidding chips and mapping out the LPC I was just doing case mods at the time. I didn't start really modding the system itself until the earliest mod chips were released. I remember when upgrading to a 40gb hard drive was a big deal, lol.
  6. You are welcome. I have been modding Xboxes since they were released. I just did three of them this week. I know quite a bit but there are many others here that have crazy amounts of knowledge. You will always be able to find any help you might need here.
  7. Go ahead and softmod the Xbox first. Then you will be able to FTP into the Xbox and copy all the saves to your computer for backup. FTP is a method of networking into your Xbox, or many other types of computer systems, from your computer. You need an FTP program, I prefer Filezilla. Once the Xbox is softmodded and plugged into your network it will have it's own IP address just like every other device on the network. You open your FTP program and connect to the IP address of the Xbox and it will open up a listing of the Xbox's hard drive where you will be able to upload and download files on it. You should also go ahead and open the Xbox and determine what model it is, if it is below a 1.6 model you need to remove the clock capacitor to prolong it's life. It sounds like a lot of information all at once but there are plenty of tutorials to help you out and we are always happy to help with any questions you have.
  8. I've tried Logitech and Pelican. The Logitech are definitely good but I still notice the input lag. The Pelican are garbage as far as input lag goes.
  9. I notice it most on games that require exact timing. In Prince of Persia when you are performing wall jumps you have to hit the jump button at the exact time, on a wireless controller I have to adjust my timing on when I push the button. It's more evident when playing emulators, precise button timing makes all the difference in whether you can finish an old NES platformer or not. It's hard to describe but you definitely feel the difference when you are playing.
  10. The yellow wire is not needed. This might work but I wonder about the lag it might cause. I can feel the difference between a regular corded controller and even a high quality wireless controller. If you have the parts it would be a fun project just to try out though.
  11. You could FTP the disc to the Xbox and run it from the hard drive. Just make a directory for it on drive E: and place all the files there. Technically you could just FTP over Evox dashboard and the bios files to do the flash.

    Bugs

I wouldn't call this a bug as it was my fault, I just thought I'd share how the program reacted in case it may be adjusted to avoid the issue happening in the future. I was adding some Amiga roms but I wasn't paying attention and added one named Twilight1.1.adf which when updating the console crashed the dashboard and required a power cycle to recover. When the dashboard reloaded it had reverted to the original default settings with no games listed and could not even download updates or anything. I had to wipe all the dashboard files, replace them with fresh copies, and then update it. Everything is back to normal now. I know the problem was the rom file had an extra period in the name and that caused the crash, I knew better but I missed it when I was transferring the files. I just wasn't expecting the crash to take out the entire dashboard. Again, I don't blame any of this on you, your work is amazing. You have breathed new life into a classic system.
  13. Yes, what he said. lol. Much better explanation than I gave.
  14. It doesn't quite have to be a special bios, the newest versions of all the major bios's support up to a 2TB hard drive. You can install a 3TB hard drive but you won't get the full capacity out of it, I believe it only lets you access around 2.25TB total.
  15. In that case you can definitely modify it. just map out the traces and if you have to cut one you need you can always jumper a wire to fix the trace. It's a very basic board. It basically just acts as a mount for the buttons and LEDs, it is no problem to modify.
  16. I wouldn't mod the original, you never know when you might need it. I would buy a cheap project board and wire it up the way you want it. You can cut it to whatever size you need and easily attach any wires, buttons, and LEDs you want. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Paxcoo-Prototype-Soldering-Electronic-Projects/dp/B075VRWC9V/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1546902689&sr=8-3&keywords=project+circuit+board
  17. Go here for emulators. http://www.emuxtras.net/dlsystem/ Get the Madmab versions for the best experience.
  18. Yes. You can use just the power button if you want to.
  19. I was going to recommend Emustation as well but since it seems he is not very comfortable messing with dashboards I kinda figured it was a little advanced for him. I set up Emustation on every box I work on for people. It's my favorite dashboard by far.
  20. On a chipped system you don't have to worry as much as you do on a softmodded system. If you screw something up you can always boot a disc like Hexen and fix it. You can just replace the UnleashX files on your drive with the UnleashX ones from his disc. The easiest way is just to FTP them over to the Xbox from a computer, less work than burning a disc and stuff.
  21. The buttons are just simple switches that connect two wires when pressed. You can lengthen the wires and move them wherever you want, I use a power button in my controller so I don't have to get up out of my chair. The circuit board for the buttons is very basic. It is basically just a couple wires for the LEDs and a few wires for the buttons. You could completely do away with the whole board with very little work.
  22. It took me forever to find a copy to download. He updated the N64 pack with more games. You can find it here http://www.emuxtras.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6096&start=340
  23. I agree. His dashboard is much cleaner. You can replace the dashboard from Hexen with Rocky5's UnleashX dashboard. You can find it in the Extras disc of his softmod tool. You can download it here https://github.com/Rocky5/Xbox-Softmodding-Tool
  24. I don't have a tutorial for how to make it but it's not hard. You could use a memory card if you can't find a communicator, you would just need to add a button to it. Basically the port that plugs into the controller is just a USB port with a special connector end. You just wire the USB port to the appropriate pins on the connector and wire the button to the yellow wire pin and the ground pin. There are many tutorials available for doing the yellow wire remote power mod, they do a much better job explaining it than I can. I just wanted it to be modular instead of modding a controller to place the power button directly into it. I'll see if I can draw up a diagram you can follow. The diagram is looking at the front of the communicator.
