  1. >The Easy XDK Installer V1.2.2< Collaboration between SweetDarkDestiny & Bowlsnapper ------------------------------------------------------------- This is an easy way to turn your retail console into a debug kit. There are two main options: 1. Install the XDK dashboard as an "app", meaning that you will have the option to load the dash as an app which will be marked "XDK Launcher" in your apps list. This will boot the dash by booting a Debug version of Cerbios through PBL, which forces the load of the XDK dashboard. 2 "Standalone mode" wipes your C and E partitions and turns the console into a full debug console. The installer also provides the means to flash a debug enabled Cerbios bios through this option. This should cover most case uses. However I will add features and modify the installer over time as I receive feedback. Much credit for this installer goes to sweetdarkdestiny. We both discussed this as an installer and its likely usage/features and this was the result. I am sure that more will come along as time goes on. I am open to suggestions, and please offer them! Also included is every single piece of software imaginable on the PC side. Everything from Windows XP itself, to Visual Studio 2003, to the XDK installer, and much more! The XDK version numbers are a lie. 5849.16 is the latest version of the XDK. Fichier Link: https://1fichier.com/dir/4vwEvoBS \\!// (o o) ----------------------oOOo-(_)-oOOo------------------------------ CHANGELOG ========================================================================= ========================================================================= 1.2.5 - Fixed XP apps not unpacking. - Updatet the PC XDK from 5933 (INTERNAL!) to the latest version 5849.16 from WAM. - Removed the PC-Apps XDK options 4629 & 5933. - Reworked some read me files and instructions. - Some minor tweaks.

  2. Just in case you didn’t know this existed… works great and is functional on Insignia!! https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:EyeToy_Mod_Guide I reprogrammed my eeprom (on camera) so that I didn’t need to modify the chat app

  3. I just finished my Xbox port of Celeste Classic so thought I would share. This is my first Original Xbox port, so it's not the best port, and it can have problems. https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/ccleste-xbox

  4. Hello, it's me again, now bringing the port of Sonic CD to the Original Xbox. For it to work, you need to place the game assets in the same folder as the .xbe. There is more information on the github page. The next Retro Engine ports (v4 and v5) should take a little longer to come out, as I need to rest a little and focus on other points in my personal life, but I promise it won't take long to return with the ports. https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/RSDKv3-xbox

  6. That part really sucks. I've recently been cataloging and digitally archiving all my old family photos (going back to the 60's). There's thousands. And digitizing VHS tapes. I couldn't imagine losing all that stuff. Sorry for your loss of this stuff. I'm sure there's other folks, but the 1st name that pops into my head for getting a new HDMI-kitted Xbox would be @ModzvilleUSA (https://twitter.com/modzvilleusa) Just FYI, there's about to be two new options for internal/digital HDMI mods. OXHD (by Ryzee and Harcroft) and an HDMI project being worked on by Nemesis. Both are close to being done. Point being- if you wait a bit you'll have more options beyond MakeMHZ to choose from.

  7. I figured, "Why not"? Maybe I can learn to code at least a little. I have a spare Halo Edition. Need to build the serial debugger after I finish with the software side of this. https://github.com/XboxDev/serial-usb-adapter

  8. Its a full set in that it has at least one version of every game released. If I had included all the foreign language games then I would of had MANY complaints saying the exact opposite of what you said. I did contemplate adding them but as the VAST MAJORITY of users would prefer not to have them I decided against it. A lot of PAL releases contain multi language anyway. Plus as @Dempsey_86 says there was usually some form of censorship IF a German release was made. Better to have the main PAL release every time imo if you must insist on not having the NTSC version. Also consider the fact that many German, French etc people also do speak and read English very well as a second language. That is correct however I did add a couple of the alternate releases from the Repackinator Alt database, but only as I already had the files downloaded for personal use.

  9. Thank you for all of your input, I learned a lot. I went to my local game store and was able to pick up an OEM controller and it worked :). I felt like I was going crazy and running out of ideas, so exciting to see that cerbios start up after a successful flash

  11. When I thought about the idea of starting ports for the Original Xbox, I had (and still have) the desire to port the decompilation of Sonic Mania (RSDKv5), but I saw that this would require an experience in ports that I don't have (yet). So I decided to go in baby steps, to gain experience, so I studied and made my first port for the Xbox, Celeste Classic (https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/ccleste-xbox) After this port done, where I learned a lot, I'm starting a series of Retro Engine ports, which will start from version 1 (which runs Sonic Nexus), next version 3 (Sonic CD 2011), version 4 (Sonic 1 and 2 2013), and version 5 (which runs Sonic Mania). The first port of this series is complete, which is the RSDKv1 for the Xbox, which runs the Sonic Nexus fan game. 12. If they had extra content, I would agree with you. But censorship is not content, it's deliberately breaking a game in my opinion. (I know it's a law in Germany). I always need to watch out if I buy 2nd hands games, that it's not a German release.

  13. I did not download the set, but I assume @nikeymikey did a full set as in the main set json in repackinator. This set is build like this: Full NTSC set + all PAL exclusives + all JPN exclusives There is no reason to add french or german games because they are the same game as the NTSC versions. Most of the time they are inferior because there is no 480p support in some of them or they dont have the english langue in them. NTSC is always the better version of the game.

  16. Hey everyone! Figured I'd share a replacement for the XBMC4Gamers start-up screen I made. I love the dashboard but didn't feel it fit with the Xbox's design language. I've found that if you're running the 'night' theme like me, you'll need to find and replace the "night.png" image at C:\skins\Profile Skin\extras\themes\splashes\night.png, this took me forever to find lol. Enjoy!

  20. Just for good measure I tried 007 everything or nothing, sands of time, doom 3 (both), dead man’s hand, and burnout 3 from vimms on an Xbox with a 2Tb western digital blue (CMR), startech adapter, and 80 wire 40 pin ide cable. All worked as they should with no crashes and I was able to play them 15 mins or so each with no issues before I moved on to the next game. I was using rocky5’s attacher and xiso files on most but burnout 3 and sands of time were both unpacked xisos. So the images from vimms are good. There’s something else in play for sure like the aforementioned data corruption in download to pc/upload to Xbox or the smr hdd. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it performs on the old hdd you have and we can go from there.

  21. Didn't the first level boot loader and decoding key and algorithm change between a v1.2 and 1.4 motherboards? Or was that just v1.0 to later revs then again with v1.6 motherboards. 512 bytes of code are stored in a permanent masked ROM that is part of the MCPX3 chip. It contains the first-stage boot loader (1BL) , decryption algorithm of the second-stage boot loader (2BL) decryption key(s), and X-code interpreter. For more about the boot process of the Xbox read Matt Borgerson's archived write-up available on archive.org's Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20220518102811/https://mborgerson.com/deconstructing-the-xbox-boot-rom/ Edit: Excerpt from Microsoft's Copilot's reply when queried aboiut deconstructing the xbox boot rom: Certainly! Let’s delve into the fascinating world of the Xbox boot ROM. Xbox Boot ROM (MCPX): The Xbox has a 256 kiB ROM that contains the startup animation, sound, and crucial components like the kernel. The kernel is a stripped-down version of the Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) microkernel. When you power on the Xbox, the software in the ROM is decompressed into RAM, and the kernel initializes the hardware1. (Reference: Boot Process - xboxdevwiki) MCPX Versions: There are two known versions of the MCPX ROM: 1.0 and 1.1. The 1.0 version, found in the original Xbox, used an RC4 algorithm to decrypt the 2BL (second bootloader). For the 1.1 version, Microsoft switched to a TEA algorithm2. (Reference: MCPX ROM - xboxdevwiki) From the information provided above, one would think that a v1.1 or later motherboard rev's MCPX3 would work on any v1.1 or later motherboard.

  22. RAM chip 3 was the culprit. Reflowed with lots of flux. It would boot with pressure applied to the top of the case. I was able to hold the pressure and test with xblast. #3 was giving me fits, but the no boot was due to a bad job on chip #1. Chip #1 had a slight bridge and would fail sporadically, and chip #3 needed a reflow. In the times I have done this, it definitely wont test or boot if the first chip isnt done right. So if you are like me and do all 4 at once and dont get a boot, check chip #1 first. Also, the boards I have done have been 1.0-1.4. Chips from AliExpress and drag solder with lots of flux.

  23. I still have several eye toys on hand to mod up, so I can test the white LEDs pretty easily for you guys. Also if anyone wants a pre-modded "full conversion" modded one hit me up. I write the Xbox Video Chat EEPROM image to the camera's EEPROM, change out the USB cable for a 5ft non breakaway Xbox cable, and of course do the short jumper wire to ground the HW descriptor pins. I wrote the guide on CM so if you see any inaccuries or need anything explained better or further described please let me know. Here's a quck overview video I did of some of the in app functions for the Xbox Video Chat softare early last year. I recommend watching the 2nd video because Twitter has the crappiest audio codec support, and the first video is silent.

  24. I love mine. Got it pre-modded, courtesy of @Harcroft. @EvanBlax has modded his with industrial lenses, which helps with field of view and clarity too. (image taken by Evan) Here's a link to a seller who offers compatible lenses: eBay - Industrial Lenses by seller LELEN 02 There's also some STL files floating around of the Eyetoy's plastic enclosure. I'd love to modify that and put a big Xbox "X" shape in the case. Maybe even accommodating industrial lenses? That would be kickass. When I get around to opening my Eyetoy, I also plan on replacing the red and blue LEDs with white ones. The stock LEDs are surprisingly bright! If you get close, you can see red/blue lighting shining on your face. Swapping in white LEDs would turn those into a makeshift ring light. It wouldn't be dramatic, but would be more useful than red/blue I think. Speaking of the camera, the Xbox Video Chat app has also been translated to English by Evan. He's done a great job with that. I've been poking around with making a skin for the app. Still tinkering with that... For anyone wanting to explore the video chat app themselves, here's some notes I just want to put somewhere publicly: UIX files can be opened with https://github.com/Ernegien/UIXTool. The tool can't import modified assets, so hex editing assets back in would be the route. XSB and XWB files are related to audio. Sound effects, etc. Background music adds in about 500mb to size of app. Music can be entirely removed, or replaced with custom songs. Standard Xbox WMA format applies. I'm planning on dumping all but a small handful to keep app size compact. App can't be patched to run in HD... at least not easily.

  26. @Naked Newt Red/Orange is a memory issue. For some reason, the Xbox's 64MBs of RAM memory is not working properly. Possible causes: Solder bridge between pins on one or more of the chips. LPC Debug port's LRESET# pin (pin #5) being held low (or in a floating state that's not registering as a logic '1' level - HIGH) which keeps the RAM memory and other peripheral chips in a reset state never allowing them to run. (Edit: xbox-hq.com's Fixing flashing red/orange tutorial) Dead RAM chip that requires replacement. It's possible that the electrolyte corrosion damaged something involving the RAM without actually being the RAM. Unless replacing all the modules fixes it, this board is probably a lost cause since there is too much to diagnose. There have been cases I have seen where replacing the troublesome ram chip (probably only one chip in many instances, as long as RAM chip(s) are the cause) remedied the issue.

  27. You've probably got some trace rot under the board where the clock capacitor was located. Once they start leaking, they can damage components. Remove the motherboard completely and check continuity on those traces. Here is a video explaining what you should check and how to fix the issue if they're damaged. https://youtu.be/IqZ20K6o1yc?si=OsGMit_TtIeJic_O

  29. I tend to agree with your assessment, Bowl. I don’t see any reason to solder it directly to the board other than to make it difficult to undo or upgrade if you lacked the experience to do so. Yeah that about the pin header is ridiculous. I mean I’ve seen corroded pin headers on electronics before (though rarely) but everything else on the board around it was corroded as well. This was done to be difficult.

  30. In order to use the Super IO Kernel debugging unit, I will need to reconnect LFrame to the LPC/MCPX. https://xboxdevwiki.net/LPC_Debug_Port I seem to have pulled it off. I won't know for sure until I get the second resistor array for the debugger. I have so many overly rich, green parts to install and I am jonesing. This debugger needs to get done and these LEDs need to come in already. I am using molex connectors to attach the status LED wires, so that if I ever need to do work on the motherboard, I can just unplug the LED wires going up front and pull out the board. I don't know why there is fuzz on one of the molexes. I will learn to code for the Xbox... Oh yes... I WILL learn to code for the Xbox.

  35. Just wanted to update this and say I played all the way through Fable TLC without a single crash, freeze, etc. It's possible this mod doesn't work for every board but I've done it on a few now and they are all still working.

  36. Agreed. Oh and for the record in my tests of some of the games he’s having issues with I was using just standard unleash that comes with Rocky5’s softmod. It all worked for me on multiple systems as I checked a few others that were sitting around this evening.
    2 points
  37. I think what is happening (and @KaosEngineer mentioned this) is that since you are still booting a softmod setup, you are booting with a "Shadow" C partition. Even though you are hardmodded, I think your chip's bios is still booting the exploited/shortcut xboxdash.xbe (because no other dash files are present on E, so it defaults to the stock dashboard) on your REAL C partition. The softmod runs the exploit and boots your modded dash with a fake C partition. You are creating the directory on what is not ACTUALLY your C partition and that is why you are not seeing it when XBlast looks to your REAL C partition. What bios is currently on your modchip? if you are able to boot a disc, I would use the FTP feature, and backup anything you need on that HDD, then format it and install a modded dash (such as XBMC or UnleashX) as well as "set up C" which you should see as part of the main installer options. You will then boot from the E partition. However, to run the TSOP flash, you need to boot with the mod disabled and boot the official MS bios and dash. After that, you can either use the savegame exploit or the endgame exploit to TSOP flash Cerbios to your onboard TSOP flash. Remember, if you're not booting from your TSOP, you will not have access to it in XBlast. Make sure that after your HDD is set up with an installer (including C), you are able to disable the SmartXX chip and boot your stock TSOP MS Bios with your new, un-softmodded MS dash files on C. I cannot find instructions on how to boot with the mod disabled, so you may have to pull the chip off the pin header when you want to boot from your TSOP and run the TSOP flashing exploit(s). Edit: Looks like you resolved this on reddit. Glad you sorted it out. For anybody wondering, this was solved using option 6 on the aforementioned Cerbios Disc "Option 6: Flash Cerbios (Softmod Users)" after choosing the option to boot with BFM. I recommend using netflash to ensure that you can easily flash the newest version of Cerbios.

  39. Yeah, try the other HDD. At this point, it looks like just trying to run ANYTHING from it would be a sufficient test as new files do not seem to wanna run on the current HDD.

  40. From my past experience, it was always a bad download or transfer that caused that issue. Have you tried just the normal .iso files or converting them into .cci using Repackinator? Those would seem to be the easier trials to run first.

  41. Problem solved! I got help from the support forum on Insignia's discord. The problem was due to the clock time and day being off as I have the clock capacitor removed. Insignia live requires the correct time and day so when the console was unplugged for the night it would not work the following day. So by manually setting the clock Insignia live worked without having to run MS dashboard network connect. Unleash X works just as well as XBMC. I end up going back to Unleash X as that is what I am familiar with. There's more information on setting the configuration for Insignia on the support forum called: Insignia Network | Homebrew Dashboard | DNS troubleshooting (read first post).@Bowlsnapper @NokSueCow

  43. Depends on the size. See below. 64 GB (with 4 KB clusters) 128 GB (with 8 KB clusters) 256 GB (with 16 KB clusters) 512 GB (with 32 KB clusters) 1 TB (with 64 KB clusters) 2 TB (with 128 KB clusters) 4 TB (with 256 KB clusters) 8 TB (with 512 KB clusters) 16 TB (with 1 MB clusters) It would be interesting to know if any partitions have an ER next to them though. I’ve seen weird stuff happen loading games from a hdd partition with errors. Haven’t seen the dirty disc error but black screens and crashes I have. Anyway, that’s just my first thought in easy things to check.
